The Law Office of Michael H. Cohen, established in 1999, is renamed Global Vision Law Group on our tenth anniversary to better reflect our scope of services.

Eric M. Willens, JD, joins us in an Of Counsel capacity. Mr. Willens brings securities experience to the firm, and expertise in counseling companies from original business plans through initial public offerings and beyond. Michael H. Cohen speaks on "Healing at the Borderland of Medicine and Religion: Legal Implications" on May 9 at a conference on Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Medical, Legal and Religious Implications, organized through the Department of Religious Studies at McGill University.

Law Offices of Michael H. Cohen is teaming up with the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) , a voluntary association of physicians which sets standards for the aesthetic medical profession, to help develop legal advice focused on the needs of physicians in medical spas and aesthetic medicine. The IAPAM defines the core competencies of aesthetic medicine as including: Light-based Therapies (hair removal, laser treatment of leg veins); Cosmetic Injectable's (BotoxT, soft tissue fillers); and Skin Rejuvenation (medical grade chemical peels, microdermabrasion). Related thematically to anti-aging medicine and complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine, the emerging and vibrantly growing field of aesthetic medicine requires careful attention to the intersection of corporate practice of medicine, licensing, anti-kickback and fee-splitting considerations, and other legal and regulatory issues in which we offer legal expertise.

Beginning February 2008, for every new major client, our law office will sponsor a child for at least one year through Plan USA.

Michael H. Cohen directs an annual Winter Session course at the Harvard School of Public Health on Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Health Law & Policy. A corporate donor that has asked to remain anonymous has donated to the Institute for Integrative and Energy Medicine to support teaching the course.

On May 25, 2008, Michael H. Cohen speaks on "Legal Issues in Integrative Medicine Relating to Mental Health Care" at the 1st International Conference on Integrative, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (ICAM) and Mental Health in Toronto. This conference aims to infuse new energy into conversations among psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and other mental health care providers concerning clinical integration of CAM therapies.

A journal article entitled, "Ethics of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Use in Children" by Sunita Vohra, MD and Michael H. Cohen, JD was published in the Pediatric Clinics of North America (2007 Dec; 54(6):875-884). Clinical and legal issues involving pediatric use of complementary and alternative medicine remain at the forefront of research and practice.





2007

The Department of Health Policy & Management at Harvard School of Public Health has approved a three-year, renewal of appointment for Michael H. Cohen as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Health Policy & Management.

Michael H. Cohen will serve on the advisory board of Integrative Practitioner, an innovative, online community of healthcare professionals.

September 2006

Healing at the Borderland of Medicine and Religion published by the University of North Carolina Press. Health law specialist and Professor Lawrence Gostin, Georgetown University Law Center and the Center for Law and the Public's Health, has favorably reviewed the book:

Michael H. Cohen received more-than passing scores on all three portions of the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test, qualifying him to apply for admission to the Law Society of England and Wales.

Mr. Cohen also joins the Board of Directors of the Society of Integrative Oncology.

Mr. Cohen is interviewed by Contemporary Pediatrics on legal and ethical issues concerning pediatric use of complementary therapies. As the practice continues to expand (see list of selected recent clients), the firm has moved its canine attorney link.

Medical Law International published Overcoming Legal and Social Barriers to Integrative Medicine by Michael H. Cohen and Mary Ruggie, PhD, Professor of Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. This is the second of two articles in a study funded by the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.

September 2004

Michael H. Cohen was awarded a grant from the Ministry of Science and Research of Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany to participate in a study entitled, Governmental Regulations for Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine in Eastern and Western Countries.
